Autumn leaves are falling!

20161106_115824

OK, so it’s November 7th again. I’ve been watching this date since 1995 when I started cleaning the gutters on the 76 homes at the Woods of Westlake. The leaves are 99% down by then and my fall contracts start. Then came 2012! The leaves hung in the trees and my workers were not happy. They need to work and we didn’t schedule any window cleaning or pressure washing.

Look out your windows. What do you see? Leaves on the trees and a lot of green. The drop later and later every year now.

I don’t know when they will fall but when they do we will be working again until all customers are satisfied.

Gutter Cleaning Schedule Update for Our Customers

unnamed

Autumn travels East to West in Northeast Ohio. Many of the leaves fell by early November in the areas southeast of Cleveland. The leaf drop starts first in towns like Chagrin Falls, Solon and Twinsburg then later through Strongsville and Berea and then to the west and north in towns near Westlake and Avon out through Lorain County. We started cleaning and reaming there. Then on November 14 the snow fell and we had to stop all work for 9 days until the thaw. We are at it again with 6 crews today. We will eventually have everyone satisfied. The climate change has had a major impact on when mother nature allows us to work.

Some homeowners have asked us to clean their gutters and downspouts when “All the leaves” have fallen. Some trees hold onto their leaves all winter so this never happens. They are on the back of the list but will also get done.

Throughout the winter as the temperatures rise above freezing we will keep working for any new customers also. The ice in the gutters is hidden from direct sunlight so when the temperatures rise it takes a longer time for the ice to melt and allow us to clean. So when it feels warm out it doesn’t necessarily mean your gutters can be cleaned. We will accommodate everyone, please be patient.

Thanks,

Mike Kennedy

Don’t use Strainer Baskets to cover downspouts!

20110918_actionshot1Many of my customers here at Budget Window and Gutter Cleaning company ask me about placing strainers over the downspouts. They see them sold in stores and assume they help keep their gutters flowing. Just because someone is selling a product doesn’t mean it is worthwhile. They actually stop the gutter system from working and do the opposite.

The first time leaves are swept to the downspout, the strainer catches them and holds them, blocking water from draining into the downspout. Water and debris accumulate in your gutters. Downspouts have large openings to accommodate leaves and nuts etc. for entry into the draining system and be washed away. Any debris which makes it past the downspout elbow flows to the storm sewer or drainage area as desired. The bottom of the drain opens out wider for this to work.

Basket strainers prevent your gutter system from working properly. Have your gutters cleaned regularly, 2 or 3 times a year in Northeast Ohio and don’t worry about them anymore. We include strainer removal for new customers at no extra cost along with our regular inexpensive gutter and downspout cleaning service.

I hope this helps!

Thanks! Mike Kennedy
